Preparation Information

Endoscopy Preparation
Nurse Consultation

Before your colonoscopy or endoscopy procedure, you’ll have a 30-minute appointment with one of our Registered Nurses. This session is crucial in determining your suitability for the procedure at one of our facilities and providing you with a preparation kit and detailed instructions.

What will be discussed at this appointment?

During this appointment, the Nurse will:

Assess Your Health History
This includes a thorough review of your current and past medical conditions. Understanding your medical background helps ensure the procedure is safe and tailored to your needs.
Review Your Current Medications
The Nurse will review all your medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and supplements. This is important to avoid any potential interactions with the preparation kit.
Gather Other Relevant Information
We will discuss any additional information that might affect your preparation or the procedure. This could include allergies, previous surgeries, or specific health concerns.

To assist in this process, please ensure you have completed your paperwork correctly and have this information at hand during your Nurse appointment. This preparation helps streamline the consultation and ensures all necessary details are covered.

You’ll also have time to ask any questions or discuss concerns about the procedure. This is your opportunity to clarify any doubts and ensure you are fully informed and comfortable with the upcoming procedure.

What Information Will I Receive About My Colonoscopy/Endoscopy Preparation?

After the health assessment, the Nurse will provide a suitable preparation. You’ll receive comprehensive instructions on:

  • How to Take Your Preparation: Detailed steps on how to use the preparation kit effectively, ensuring you follow the correct dosage and timing.
  • Foods to Avoid During Preparation: Specific dietary restrictions will be provided to optimise the effectiveness of the preparation. This typically includes avoiding certain foods that can interfere with the cleansing process.
  • Fluid Diet Requirements: Guidelines on what fluids you should consume and avoid. Staying hydrated is crucial, and certain fluids can help in the preparation process.

You may also receive additional medical management instructions depending on your current medications. These instructions ensure that your medication regimen is adjusted appropriately to avoid complications during the preparation and procedure.

Where do I need to go for this appointment?

We offer both face-to-face appointments at our Westside Private Hospital, North Lakes Day Hospital and Bundaberg Private Day Hospital facilities, as well as telehealth consultations.

Face-to-Face Appointments
You can visit either of our facilities for a direct consultation with the Nurse.
Telehealth Consultations
If you choose a telehealth consultation, you will need to organise a time to attend the facility to collect your preparation kit. This option provides flexibility and convenience, especially if you have a busy schedule or prefer remote consultations.

Other Important Information

  • Preparation Kit Refund Policy: Please note that refunds will not be given for the preparation kit if you cancel your Colonoscopy/Endoscopy appointment. It’s important to be certain about your appointment before collecting the kit.
  • Doctor’s Referral and Paperwork: Ensure you have a current Doctor’s Referral and that your paperwork is completed in time. Incomplete paperwork or lack of a referral can lead to delays or rescheduling of your appointment, which could affect other patients’ schedules as well.
