Dr Smith was a graduate of University of Queensland Medical School in 1997 and spent his residency training in Northern Queensland and Brisbane. He has achieved a Masters in Science research degree in Anatomy at Trinity College in Dublin for which he received a Trinity College Post-Graduate Award. He completed his advanced training in Ophthalmology in Queensland in 2007.
