Dr Terrence Tan is a skilled Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing digestive health issues. Dr Tan’s special interests include:

Qualifications
A valued member of Montserrat’s Gastroenterology team since 2014, Dr Tan’s educational journey began at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He further honed his skills and knowledge in hepatobiliary disorders and liver failure through additional training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Perth, where he mentored younger physicians. His expertise was recognised with a fellowship from the FRACP in 2008, and he later completed his doctoral studies (PhD) at the University of Queensland.

His approach to patient care is comprehensive, addressing each patient’s primary concerns, whether they seek immediate answers or need certain lifestyle factors excluded. Approachable and consistent by nature, Dr Tan understands that every patient’s needs are unique which requires a tailored approach to their care.
Rapid & Direct Endoscopy (Open Access)
Through Montserrat’s Open Access Program, Dr Tan facilitates swift investigations into digestive concerns for pre-qualified patients. This Open Access program helps patients access high-quality endoscopy within 14 days of booking. It reduces the time to diagnosis, supports Australia’s Bowel Cancer Screening Program, and triages patients with positive test results.
Privately Insured No Gap Services
Dr Tan is a no gap provider. Patients with adequate private health cover pay no gap for their procedure (other than their excess or co-payment if applicable). Please note, this does not include Anaesthetist fees which can sometimes be charged separately.
Mentoring & Volunteering
Renowned for teaching and mentoring medical students, Dr Tan enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise with the medical community. He has written multiple papers on diabetes medication and colonoscopy, in addition to his volunteer work in the Solomon Islands teaching diagnostic endoscopy.
Outside of his commitments to patients and the profession, Dr Tan enjoys cardio exercise, weight training, and reading.
